What is Blue Health?
Blue Health Coaching is rooted in the science and psychology of what researcher Dr Wallace J. Nichols calls the Blue Mind effect — the calm, soft-focus state our brains enter when we’re near water.
Being close to lakes, rivers, canals, and even damp woodland has a measurable impact on our physiology.
Blue spaces naturally:
lower cortisol
deepen our breath
relax the body, especially the vagus nerve
quieten mental noise
open a gentle doorway into the subconscious
This calm, restorative state makes it easier for us to reflect, think clearly, and process emotions.
That’s why water has always been seen as a place of renewal, creativity, clarity, and emotional release.
Blue Health Coaching uses this natural shift to support inner work.
By guiding you through prompts, metaphors from nature, intentional silence, and mindful connection, we work with your nervous system — not against it.
Out on the water’s edge, things soften.
You soften.
And in that space, you can see yourself more clearly.
We will be walking through a variety of blue spaces here in the city of Birmingham. Each one offers a diverse waterscape in which we can explore metaphor and how we relate to ourselves in this space.

What to Expect
Each walk lasts around two hours and will include the following elements.
Guided reflection
I will offer soft prompts, metaphors, and observations, mainly to assist you in using Blue Health Coaching on yourself. You will learn techniques that you can use time and time again on your own walks. We will complete this part in relative silence and quiet. Making this journey personal. Each of us may select different elements of the environment to ficus on. they will be individual to you.
Silent solo time
A quiet stretch to walk completely alone, in complete stillness, letting nature speak and your thoughts settle.
Connection with others
There will be time to reflect on your experiences and share with the group if you want to. There is no pressure to do this. WE will also share a warm drink and a small vegan bite.
